He stars in one of this year’s biggest films, yet Eddie Redmayne has admitted that it was a Hollywood movie star who made him watch some of cinema’s best cult movies.
The 31-year-old has revealed that it was actually Scarlett Johansson who persuaded him to watch Woody Allen films.
While working with the US star on ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ in 2008, Eddie was left feeling rather embarrassed when Scarlett would bring up various movies and he had to admit that he’d never seen them.
“I was doing the film The Other Boleyn Girl with Scarlett Johansson and she was like, ‘You know that bit in ‘The Big Lebowski’?’ And I was like, ‘I haven’t seen the ‘Big Lebowski,'” he explained.
“She’s like, ‘You haven’t seen ‘The Big Lebowski’? You know that bit in that Woody Allen film?’ I was like, at what point do I lie and pretend that I’ve seen it?
“She’s like, ‘What have you seen?’ And I was like, ‘Well I started out in theatre…’ So Scarlett accrued from all the guys working on that film a list of films that I should watch.”
The Les Misérables star added that he has “slowly been working” his way through the list.
