Eddie is filming today in Cambridge for his film The Theory of Everything!
Thanks to Raymond for the heads up!
A film about Stephen Hawking starring Eddie Redmayne is being shot today in Cambridge – a stone’s throw from the scientist’s home.
Crews have taken over the Backs in Queen’s Road and are filming The Theory of Everything: The Story of Stephen Hawking.
The new biopic stars Les Miserables heartthrob – and Cambridge graduate – Mr Redmayne as the legendary scientist.
Dozens of vans have descended on the colleges along the Backs including St John’s, to shoot the film directed by James Marsh, of Man on Wire fame.
Parking restrictions are in place and parts of the green spaces have been taped off on Queen’s Green, near the scientist’s Newnham home.
Birdsong actor Redmayne is well versed in Cambridge academia.
He graduated with a 2:1 in History of Art from Trinity College in 2003.
The film is said to examine a turbulent period in Prof Hawking’s life, starting in 1963 when he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease while studying for his PhD at Trinity Hall, Cambridge.
A spokeswoman for the production company confirmed the film was being shot in Cambridge this week.
Writer Tony Boullemier, an extra in the movie, tweeted: “Just been costumed-fitted as an extra in upcoming #StevenHawking film #TheTheoryofEverything filming in Cambridge. I will be ‘a professor’!”
And film student Sam Cornish, another extra, tweeted last night: “Long day filming in Cambridge today. The Universities are beautiful.”
