The critically acclaimed movie stars Eddie Redmayne as Lili Elbe – a painter who was born male [with the name Einar Wegener] who goes on to become one of the first-known recipients of gender reassignment surgery. Directed by Tom Hooper – of The King’s Speech and Les Misérables – the movie traces Lili’s transition from artist Einar, and its effect on Einar’s wife Gerda, played by the incredible Alicia Vikander.

It’s a remarkable love story on the surface, with some powerful messages on equality, acceptance and gender identity bubbling under the surface. Speaking to GT ahead of the film’s release, Eddie Redmayne explained: “We need to break down prejudice, taboos and misconceptions.

“Society needs to understand the difficulties faced by trans people – and especially the amount of abuse and physical violence they’re often subjected to.”

To celebrate the release of this fantastic movie, we’ve got a very special behind the scenes clip for you, featuring Tom Hooper and Eddie Redmayne.
