Eddie shares with USA Today what his Patronus is!
Eddie Redmayne, who stars as wizard Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, has his own protective Patronus.
And it’s adorable while defending him from the forces of evil.
J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore website revealed the new Patronus experience last week, which officially determines what animal will defend fans (and leading men, the odd wizard) from the forces of evil with the Patronus charm. In the Harry Potter books and movies, Harry’s takes the form of a stag.
Redmayne, just like you and all your friends, also made the series of choices on the website, based on a prompts and questions written by J.K. Rowling, to discover which animal form his Patronus takes.
“I actually did (the Patronus test) twice as it launched. Both times I got the same Patronus,” Redmayne tells USA TODAY by email. “The people from Pottermore told me that that was incredibly rare because of the amount of algorithms it takes to choose the Patronus. So I must really be that thing.”
Even Rowling herself had her Patronus change from a pine marten to a heron.
And Redmayne’s Patronus?
“A basset hound with long floppy ears and slightly dosey,” says Redmayne. “I think they might have got it spot on.”
We’re not going to argue with that.
Redmayne also revealed this week some of his favorite new characters from the third and final Fantastic Beasts trailer. Between basset hounds with floppy ears and Pickett the Bowtruckle, we’re overwhelmed with adorable-ness before Fantastic Beasts opens Nov. 18.
